I'm almost afraid to look at all the opportunities I've engaged with over the years for fear of them turning out to be Ponzi schemes (all of them??) Even with the best intentions, they are taking advantage of creators desperate for recognition. We need more posts like this calling them out. Power to the people! 💛
Your post truly came in as I was writing this! *Collective unconscious*? Your writing helped me to remember that the big lesson out of all of this is that it's the doing that matters. It takes a really long time to really feel this deep in the bones, at least for me. There is so much that tells us we need that outside validation for anything to matter. And then when you start looking at the number$$$ you start to realize that you realllyyyy don't need that and in fact would be far better off without it!

The most depressing part is realizing how much money circulates around the dream of making films instead of the films themselves.
This is essential reading! So good, the numbers around Sundance and then seeing the studio movies they program anyway… unreal!
